Confirmation of Goodwin Liu is bad for families and rule of law
Thomasson: 'Goodwin Liu is a radical, liberal, political activist who will impose his own values on Californians'
Sacramento, California -- Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, a leading pro-family organization promoting moral virtues for the common good, decried today's confirmation of liberal U.C. Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu as an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court, following the U.S. Senate's rejection of his nomination by Barack Obama to a federal judgeship:
"Goodwin Liu is a radical, liberal, political activist who will impose his own values on Californians by legislating from the bench, a clear violation of a judge's oath of office and of the specific words of our constitution. His political agenda dressed up in judicial robes is bad for families and bad for the rule of law in California.
"It's sad that an enemy of our written constitution, who is deeply prejudiced against the original intent behind our highest civil law, has been given immense power. Our precious constitution is now at increased risk from this silver-tongued judicial activist. Goodwin Liu, rejected by the U.S. Senate in May, is expected to even exceed the activism of his liberal predecessor, Carlos Moreno, on the California Supreme Court.
"There is a growing group of judicial deceivers who raise their right hands and swear to support and defend the specific, written constitutions of California and of the United States, but they intend nothing of the sort. Goodwin Liu is one of these judicial usurpers because he refuses to abide by the plain reading and original construction of both the state and federal constitutions that we've all agreed to live under. Jerry Brown has made Goodwin Liu his new Rose Bird on the California Supreme Court. Fortunately, the voters will have an opportunity to reject or retain Liu in November 2014."
