Pro-family Statement on Mass Murder
'Why were 12 people murdered and 59 others shot up?' Sin + glorification of violence

Sacramento, California -- In response to the July 20 mass murder at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater, Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, a leading family issues organization promoting moral virtues for the common good, issued the following statement:

"Why were 12 people murdered and 59 others shot up by a 24-year-old from San Diego? The main motive for murder is always sin -- disobeying and hating God and God's creation of people. The Savior of the world, Jesus Christ, identified murder as a sin that proceeds from the heart. (See Mark 7:21-23)

"This senseless mass murderer was also obviously inspired by an evil role model named 'The Joker,' who was glorified in the 2008 film, 'The Dark Knight,' and who was the 'top act' in the publicity surrounding this widely-seen movie. Art indeed influences life, and violence glorified in the media definitely impacts our culture in dark ways. The research proves it. (See "Media Violence: The Effects Are Both Real and Strong," American Behavioral Scientist, April 2008)

"Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. Sadly, because of our culture's disinterest in loving God and Hollywood 's surpassing interest in glorifying violence, children and families continue to be at risk."
