Gavin Newsom forces CA public universities to hand out abortion pills
As many as 6,000 drug-induced abortions on college girls expected per year
Sacramento, California (October 11, 2019) -- In response to California Governor Gavin Newsom today signing SB 24 to require University of California and California State University campuses to distribute abortion pills, Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, a leading family issues organization promoting moral virtues for the common good, has issued the following statement:
"It's sad how these drugs causing abortions have severe side effects and can also cause life-threatening complications, something university clinics are not set up to supervise. With chemical abortions, would-be mommies are turned into novice abortionists. Women always suffer and babies always perish."
Under SB 24, it is estimated that 6,000 medication abortions (500 a month) could occur yearly at California public universities. The Senate Health Committee's April 1, 2019 analysis included the statement of Democrat Connie Leyva, the main author of SB 24, that "up to 500 public university students currently must leave campus each month to access medication abortion."
Yet SB 24 is founded on falsehoods. As Life Priority Network, based in Southern California, observed:
SB 24, Public university student health centers: abortion by medication techniques (Leyva-D & Carrillo-D) requires every California public university student health center to offer abortion by medication. The bill states "Abortion care is a constitutional right and an integral part of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care. Abortion by medication techniques is extremely safe, highly effective, and cost effective." These statements are false and dangerous.
Abortion is NOT reproductive health care. Pregnancy within marriage is normal. The issue with SB 24 is pregnancy outside of marriage. SB 24 goes far beyond the purview of legitimate government, which is to protect its citizens. Consider the message this bill sends to unmarried students: "Go ahead and indulge in premarital sex and we taxpayers will provide you with drugs to abort your unwanted pregnancy." SB 24 protects neither students nor unborn child.
Medication abortion is NOT extremely safe. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that medication abortions have resulted in severe physical complications and death. Medication abortion requires first killing the unborn baby with drug RU-486 followed by another drug to expel the dead child days later. The drugs are self-administered, making the mother a novice abortionist. The FDA requires surgical intervention and emergency medical capability to be available for incomplete medication abortions and complications. SB 24 ignores these requirements.
SaveCalifornia.com's Randy Thomasson continued, saying:
"Every abortion stops a beating heart of a living person made up of unique, individual, human DNA. If you believe that it's morally wrong to kill innocent human beings, that the Jewish Holocaust was evil, that the Armenian Holocaust was evil, and that the murderous regimes of Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse-Tung and Pol Pot were evil, then you must regard abortion as evil because every abortion barbarically slaughters an innocent human being. Babies in the womb who are sentenced to death by abortion are dying in a most horrible way, grieving God's heart and permanently scarring mothers who permit their children to be killed."
"It's a terrible irony that you're safer on death row in California than you are in your mother's womb. California taxpayers pay to clothe and feed serial murderers, yet the same taxpayers are forced to subsidize the torturous killing of innocent babies in the womb. These babies have an innate right to life because they've done no wrong and are precious human beings created in the image of God. A society that kills its most vulnerable inhabitants is not a civilized or compassionate society."
